Paris Retrospective // Film By Keith Lancaster

Paris Retrospective // film by Keith Lancaster from Benjo Arwas on Vimeo.

During my recent trip to Paris, my girlfriend, Sidney Kraemer (http://www.sidneykraemer.com), took a footage of me shooting around the city as well as behind the scenes pieces and Keith Lancaster (http://www.siignal.com) followed me to document my photography ,my thoughts ,and my journey and put it all together to create this video piece. I wasn’t ready and wasn’t prepared, but the best stuff happens when your’e not ready, right?

So thank you Keith for the great opportunity to visually share my thoughts and thank you Sidney for always being there for me.
Thanks to all the teams, creative people and talents: Michelle Catillon, Davide Pereira Palos, Katia Ren, Raquel Crispim, Marianna Giordana, Christine Aimee, Coppelia Pique, Metropolitan Models, and all the other colleges that help and were around from Brooks Institute. PS- the person that sold me the 4X5 in the US, thanks sooo much!

Heading to Europe for the summer – Some good old news and new page in my life

Today, June 10th, 2012 i’m heading to Europe for the whole summer.

Packed with over 100 4X5 black and white sheets, 20 packs of polaroids, 50 rolls of 120mm film, couple of cloths and a camera, im ready to begin the unknown journey.

Looking forward to discover, to connect, to explore, to get lost and to create.

My main goals by going overseas this time, is to get inspired. to bring with me something new. to do more research and to develop more design in my eyes. and of course to have some fun, to study, to enjoy my beautiful girlfriend and to meet new people, networking and travel.

The past month was hectic with lots of jobs and projects. Videos and Editorials. Celebrities and Actors, Models and Artists coming into my studio non stop and blessing me with their beauty. Thank you everyone for being a part.

Article about my photography in DODHO MAGAZINE and being featured on June 2012 – issue #3.

DODHO Magazine, June 2012 Issue #3

I photographed the young singer Kiana Brown, that just signed with RCA / Sony Entertainment for her new promotion tour and her single album “Hey Chica”. she’s amazing and you can hear her voice through the images. Follow her and go to her FB page to view more images from a wonderful day with great people! Special thank to Brian Espinosa and Amy Goetz for the amazing time and the new friendship!

As well, i had great opportunity to photograph and to create a whole 2013 Calendar + Poster to the funny, charismatic, awesome actor – Texas Battle (The Bold And The Beautiful, Final Destination 3, Death Valley, Couch Carter and others..)

Texas is great character in person and it was pleasure to photograph him in different moods, scenarios and stages. And of course to capture his personality and his lifestyle.

Here is just a small teaser from what to be feature. Follow Texas on Twitter @Texas1Battle and on WhoSays.com to stay in touch with him and to see the full calendar when its out in Mid – June! Special thanks to Matt Lundin and Theresa Broadnax.

Besides all the celebrities and the actors that came along my studio, we’ve don couple of amazing test shoots / fashion stories with variety of teams and great people.

As always, Pinkerton models brought a totally new and fresh board from overseas.

here are couple of examples that already were picked by PhotoVogue to be feature on their website. and couple of them already approved by ART+COMMERCE to be in the stock section and image archive for clients.

Angles and Demons. Katie A @ LA Models

My apologize about big gap and delay between each post. just founding myself in a good way booking shoots every possible day and working a lot on publications before im leaving to Paris.

Had a great day shooting Katie Armijo @ LA MODELS at the back alley of my studio.

Was a great beautiful day outside so i decided to pull out my big black muslin and to put it against the alley walls. when the sun giving me a nice backlight, using only a reflector was a great solution and perfect using of natural light. We got a short editorial approach, some head shoots, short video and one of the photographs got picked up by Italian Vogue (PHOTOVOGUE) which thats great.

Sometimes i’m being bored of shooting in the studio, and im looking for different ways to entertain my brain and to use the right side of it.

Ive shoot with Katie before when she was with Pinkerton and we had great communication in getting the right mood + direction.

The great team:

Let The Shadows Speak… Celebrities In Film Noir/Hollywood glamour.

I don’t know how i got attracted to FILM NOIR, which is a cinematic definition for hollywood drama scenes, where the shadows are the main subject and than only partial of the scene being lighted. hi contrast black and white…dramatic.

I found it really fun as a still photographer, and found it better when i began to do a bit of cinematography and directing by myself.

placing the lights where ever i want, composition wise, creating story with the lights and than thinking about the models and their issues. lighen the fashion and the clothes separately from the whole scene, different angles. cinematic colors and hi contrast black and white. and overall to give it a nice hollywood, cinematic feeling.

The styling and the selection of the models is the most important thing. maybe sometimes you’ll need real actors rather than fashion/lifestyle models?…than you can begin and enjoy the ride.

Recently i worked on couple of projects with models and actors that based on this technique/style and i really liked it…maybe its a beginning of a new era for me? I like this kind of approach in studio and on location and really think it will fit the best for Celebrity portraiture. You will need to help me and decide…so what do you think?

Here are some examples from a whole productions that i made with this technique, style and feeling from the past weekend.

I had the opportunity to photograph couple of Actors/Artists in this style.

Let the shadows speak…

Klara Landrat and David Ravet

Amazing and scary how they improvised and ignoring my existence going around them with 3 different lenses to capture as much angles as i can.
